Silicone Sponge is an outstanding combination of silicone rubbers overall properties and closed cell sponge’s utility. The silicone elastomer is expanded creating the closed cell structure prior to a heat cure process. Once at Bay Rubber Company silicone sponge is available in rolls, by the foot, slit or cut using any number of fabricating capabilities. Pressure sensitive adhesive is available for most silicone sponge products. Silicone sponge provides solutions for nearly every industry in large part due to its range of physical properties. Engineered to operate under a wide temperature range, be water tight, possess excellent compression set resistance, and be UV and ozone resistant closed cell silicone sponge is a very effective solution to environmental shielding and outdoor gaskets. Closed cell silicone sponge can be manufactured to meet specifications with low compression set properties, UL 94HB, UL 94V-0 flame ratings, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, fluid and fuel resistance. Thickness and density options are available. Wide Operating Temperature- Silicone sponge has a temperature range of -100°F to +500°F Water Sealing- The closed cell structure allows for good water sealing with relatively low compressive forces. UL 50 and UL 50E grades are available. Compression Set Resistance- Silicone offers excellent compression set resistance (ability to rebound to original thickness), especially at higher temperatures, compared to most rubber material. Low compression set silicone sponges are available for even better performance than general purpose grades. UV and ozone resistance- Silicone products have excellent UV and ozone resistance due in part its inorganic backbone.
